What is Tea Time, exactly?
Tea Time is where five-ish strangers sit at a cafe with a Host to have a two hour conversation. It's not about anything in particular.
You're meant to know pretty much nothing about the people that come, aside from the fact that they all signed up for this — just like you. It's self-selecting in that sense.
However, it may bring you comfort to know a little something about your Host. If so, just keep reading
Meet your Host, Kushaan.
(It'll be helpful to know what they look like when you're looking for a group of confused strangers at the cafe.)
Raised in Massachusetts with a tryst in Washington DC, I'm happy to now call San Francisco my home. My philosophy: I believe every stranger has a story and I love the power of questions that bring out the best in people - I love the walls that come down with conversations around Tea with Strangers. As a new SF transplant, always excited to hear what makes people here click.
What's your story?
I like writing but this mostly manifests itself with little soliloquies in my head during a morning shower that never really get down on paper. It's fun when they do. I'm a big sports fan and specifically love connecting with strangers on this premise of pride, comradery, and schadenfreude that comes from people kicking around balls. I have family in India, love diving into my areas of my heritage, and spend half my time encouraging anyone who is non-Indian to watch the movie Lagaan. I'm an aspiring food blogger who mostly just enjoy taking pictures of really aesthetic avocado toast and tacos, an aspiring playwright with a repository of mostly half-written plays, and a traveler who enjoys spontaneity and learning slang in a local language. I'm also excited by tech - both by its potential and its ubiquity.
What might we talk about?
Work. The weather. The northeast. Childhood. The Southwest. Favorite candle scents. Guilty pleasures. Ideal places to retire. Insecurities. Fears. Food. Books you've read. Moments you've felt brave. Difficult decisions. Fun decisions. Bucket lists. Dreams. Memories. Politics. Holiday plans. Travel.
Anything and everything!
