What is Tea Time, exactly?

🍡

Tea Time is where five-ish strangers sit at a cafe with a Host to have a two hour conversation. It's not about anything in particular.

You're meant to know pretty much nothing about the people that come, aside from the fact that they all signed up for thisΒ β€” just like you. It's self-selecting in that sense.

However, it may bring you comfort to know a little something about your Host. If so, just keep reading

Meet your Host, Leo.

(It'll be helpful to know what they look like when you're looking for a group of confused strangers at the cafe.)

We often hear the idea that life is a series of choices. It seems to me that many times, these choices boil down to two general options, which could be summed up as- stasis or change. Familiar or strange. same, or different. I've found that for me, option #2 tends to bounce life into new, unexpected, and wonderful places. Meeting new people is one of the easiest ways to go down the unknown path, so let's explore that labyrinth together! I guarantee a minotaur-free experience (or maybe self-doubt is the minotaur? We'll workshop this.)

What's your story?

I'm curious about a lot of things. I love asking questions, exploring ideas, and creating things with people- lately, that's meant doing lots of improv, working on music, and building software. I'm inspired by the idea that people can learn, grow, and change, and love to help that process along for myself and others. Teaching is a passion of mine, partially because I've realized that it's one of the most direct ways to learn something yourself! The challenge of empathizing with the learner deeply enough to discover the best way to communicate with them is endlessly fascinating.

What might we talk about?

So many things! Our experiences, others' experiences, the concept of shared experience, the experience of talking about experience, pizza, movies, meditation, things that we know nothing about, things we are experts on, the mind (big fan over here), whether awkward silences are actually awkward (insert super long pause), our pasts, what we actually do at our jobs, our strong opinions that we suspect may actually be wrong, "meta" stuff (guilty pleasure), our comfort zones, our fears, deep sea fish (um, no connection between the last 3 at all)...you know, typical small talk.

The map is not the territory- unless you're in the MapZone!
