What is Tea Time, exactly?

🍡

Tea Time is where five-ish strangers sit at a cafe with a Host to have a two hour conversation. It's not about anything in particular.

You're meant to know pretty much nothing about the people that come, aside from the fact that they all signed up for thisΒ β€” just like you. It's self-selecting in that sense.

However, it may bring you comfort to know a little something about your Host. If so, just keep reading

Meet your Host, Emily.

(It'll be helpful to know what they look like when you're looking for a group of confused strangers at the cafe.)

Howdy! I'm Emily. I get excited about the little stuff, and I'm told I have a pretty loud laugh. To me, there's nothing better than a genuine conversation. I welcome ranters and Chatty Cathy's β€” I really, really like hearing people talk passionately about stuff they're interested in.

What's your story?

I'm a diehard Tar Heel who loves writing, traveling, folk music, my family, and being supremely comfy. Trying new things and meeting new people get me really jazzed β€” doing random activities like trapeze or linoleum printing, making friends on the sidewalk or in Lyfts, finding new places to travel... I'm also a big fan of balance: I like doing crafts and camping. My favorite foods (right now) are fried chicken and yellow bell peppers. I like dogs and cats equally (controversial, I know.) I'm not a workaholic. I want to make a difference by helping improve media literacy, but I'm still working on how I'll do it. I spend my free time running, painting, or baking cookies with too much chocolate and butter.

What might we talk about?

We might talk about our favorite childhood breakfast cereals, running routes in SF, Bob's Burgers, your favorite places to travel, what makes you happy, what makes you sad, techniques for peeling an orange in one piece, self awareness, good books you've read recently, favorite random activities you've discovered in the city...The options are pretty endless.

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
