What is Tea Time, exactly?

Tea Time is where five-ish strangers sit at a cafe with a Host to have a two hour conversation. It's not about anything in particular.

You're meant to know pretty much nothing about the people that come, aside from the fact that they all signed up for this — just like you. It's self-selecting in that sense.

However, it may bring you comfort to know a little something about your Host. If so, just keep reading

Meet your Host, Anumeha.

(It'll be helpful to know what they look like when you're looking for a group of confused strangers at the cafe.)

If you meet someone with the same name as me, will you let me know? Been on the lookout for 3 decades and still no luck.

What's your story?

So I gotta admit: I'm not a fan of tea. Probably blasphemous, I know... especially coming from an Indian heritage... BUT, I do make it up with hot chocolate. They're both warm; both make you slow down. Close enough. (right?) Beverage choice aside, I have a deep affinity for gatherings. Mostly because they let me do what I’ve been doing since I was little: Observe. Body language, facial expressions, a person’s unique traits… Tea time is a chance for me to continue doing this — but just in a verbal way now. For 2 hours, I get to sit with a few people who walk the same streets I do. I’m curious about the things we’ve been thinking about. What changes we might’ve made in our lives lately. What the best new pizza place is in town. The topic of conversation doesn’t matter as much as the intent behind coming together - sharing things without expectations or prescription, but just because it’s good to get out of our heads and hear from someone else’s for a bit.

Once, I heard that just our very presence in the physical world influences people's actions & reactions around us. Even when we think we're not doing much, simply existing alters the space we're in. Let that sink in for a sec. And let's gather for some time and make a small ripple in each other’s daily routines. I hope to see you soon :)

What might we talk about?

Thinking visually, if you're a milk before cereal kinda person... why?, serendipity, minimalism, the beauty of languages (french! urdu! arabic!), cinema + photography, the post-travel reflection state, body language, third culturism, cross-culturism, the modern day remnants of colonization on countries, the arts as a practice vs profession, ...fate?

Gotta start somewhere!
