What is Tea Time, exactly?

Tea Time is where five-ish strangers sit at a cafe with a Host to have a two hour conversation. It's not about anything in particular.

You're meant to know pretty much nothing about the people that come, aside from the fact that they all signed up for thisΒ β€” just like you. It's self-selecting in that sense.

However, it may bring you comfort to know a little something about your Host. If so, just keep reading

Meet your Host, Dot.

(It'll be helpful to know what they look like when you're looking for a group of confused strangers at the cafe.)

I'm the traveler that strikes up conversations with strangers because it almost always ends up being my favorite part of a trip - leading to an exchange of new ideas, insight into the local community, and an opportunity to learn about the culture. I thought that if I love doing that abroad, why not do it in my home city?

What's your story?

I'm an idealist, dedicated yogi, early riser, sort-of Luddite, and recent SF transplant. Being outdoors makes me instantaneously happier. I enjoy challenging myself with travel, foreign languages, making things with my own hands, and starting dance parties anywhere and everywhere. You can convince me to try anything (eating crickets, paragliding, using a new app...) if you speak passionately enough about it.

What might we talk about?

Your latest hobby/passion/interest, books that made you laugh out loud, books that made you cry, the weirdest creature you've ever seen, serendipity, that time that you surprised yourself, the power of nostalgia, sources of inspiration, strategies for anxiety-inducing situations like public transit during rush hour, parallel universes.

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not."
