What is Tea Time, exactly?

🍡

Tea Time is where five-ish strangers sit at a cafe with a Host to have a two hour conversation. It's not about anything in particular.

You're meant to know pretty much nothing about the people that come, aside from the fact that they all signed up for thisΒ β€” just like you. It's self-selecting in that sense.

However, it may bring you comfort to know a little something about your Host. If so, just keep reading

Meet your Host, Alyssa.

(It'll be helpful to know what they look like when you're looking for a group of confused strangers at the cafe.)

At almost any moment in the UK, at least 1/3 of the population is either discussing the weather, has already discussed the weather, or is about to. So...let's not do that. Instead, let's grab tea, skip the temperature small talk, and share some stories. I've been told I'm a good listener*!

What's your story?

Hi! I'm Alyssa. I was born and raised on a diet of meditation and kale in San Francisco, but spent most of my childhood dreaming of living in the UK. I somehow convinced my employer to make my dreams come true, and have lived in London for the past two years. (No, I don't have a Madonna accent. Yes, I now say "loo".).

I love finding new things to love. Routine is chill, but there's nothing like visiting a city for the first time, tasting your new favorite food, discovering a great song you've never heard before, or connecting with someone you just met. (That last one is super important. Because it involves you! Yay!)

What might we talk about?

Spread your knowledge! Teach me something new you learned today or something you're super passionate about. Let's have a debate about politics or about why cheesy snacks are better in the US than in the UK. Nothing's off the table, except the weather or which public transit route you took to get here.

Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes.
